Portfolio TCO & registrar billing

Total cost of ownership and net P&L for your book — including names still only at the registrar.

App: app.fatheron.domains · Domainers how-to

1. You should not need a manual sync

Billing and registrar inventory refresh automatically: daily in the background, when you connect a registrar, and when you open Earnings if the snapshot is stale (~12h). Refresh now is only for an immediate pull after a big purchase batch.

2. Auto billing vs CSV / manual

  • Auto billing (API history) — Dynadot, GoDaddy (best-effort): order charges flow into TCO.
  • Costs via CSV / manual — NameBright, Spaceship, Porkbun, Namecheap, and most others: inventory still syncs; money history comes from CSV on Earnings (or typed cost on Inventory).

Many registrar APIs simply do not expose invoices. The CSV path is how we pad that gap — not a failure of your setup.

3. CSV columns

domain,charged_at,amount,currency,charge_type,registrar,external_ref
brand.com,2024-01-15,12.00,usd,register,namebright,nb-ord-1
brand.com,2025-01-15,14.99,usd,renew,namebright,nb-ord-2

Use templates on Earnings: generic, annual renewal estimates, or acquisition cost basis. Dry-run, then commit. Costs apply even if the domain is not imported into Fat Heron.

4. NameBright & Spaceship

  • NameBright — keep connected for inventory; build a billing CSV from purchase logs, receipts, or a support portfolio export; set registrar=namebright.
  • Spaceship — use SellerHub/account exports for sales/listings where available; map registration/renewal spend into the billing CSV with registrar=spaceship.

5. Reading Earnings

  1. Open Earnings — auto-refresh runs if needed.
  2. Check Total TCO and Net P&L.
  3. Rows marked At registrar · not in Fat Heron still count in the rollup.
  4. Optional: Include forward renewals for 1 / 3 / 5 year projected holding cost.
